ADHD

ADHD Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity. Treatment includes parent training and helping children to be aware of their ADHD triggers and learn effective coping strategies. Many children do require medication. See my blog on this topic.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

Child & Adolescent Therapy Working with children and adolescents can be particularly challenging and requires both a broad knowledge base of child development as well as extensive training and experience. This page depicts areas of focus and treatment modalities utilized.

Anxiety/Depression

Anxiety/Depression Depression and anxiety can be quite common in children and adolecents but often appears very different than how it manifests in adults. Therapy is highly benificial and effective as it allows a safe space to explore the worries or difficulties that children/adolescents have while also teaching them skills and tools they need to heal.

Parenting Training

Parenting Training for Behavior Issues Often parents can feel overwhelmed by their child's behavior challenges. Learning effective parenting skills can be life-altering. We offer a 6-week parenting program designed to empower parents who are at a loss as to how to handle their children- focusing on positive reinforcement and appropriate discipline.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy Family conflicts are a part of life. Sometimes they get to a point which requires professional help. Family therapy can be a great way to improve communication in the home, deal with issues such as illness or divorce, and help the family unit grow as a whole.

Trauma-Focused Treatment

Trauma-Focused Treatment Designed to help children, adolescents, & their parents overcome the impact of traumatic events. It can help with traumas related to sexual/physical abuse, domestic/community violence, an unexpected death of a loved one, & natural disasters. The focus is to: • Assist the child/adolescent to develop coping strategies for traumatic stress reactions. • Reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, or acting-out, which are common in children exposed to trauma.
